In Remembrance of 9/11 - by Pastor Russ McAllister

My Lighthouse Friends and Family,

America is not the same place it used to be. As a nation, we've changed. Hate has engulfed a segment of our great nation. We are a splintered nation that is hurting, falling apart, and filled with division. But, the real problem is not one of color, politics or social status. The problem in America is that we have damaged hearts. Sin has overcome us and we are in desperate need of Jesus Christ and his healing. This month we celebrate the anniversary of 9/11. Though things have desperately declined since this modern day Pearl Harbor, I can’t help but think about the unity that took place during this tragic event. The country came together and the first responders that ran into danger were called heroes. Many sacrificed their lives for complete strangers. That is why we are doing the First Responders Recognition Day on Sunday September 10th. It is an opportunity to come together in spite of our faults and give thanks to these great men and women who sacrifice their safety every time they go to work. Please invite a policeman, a fireman, or an EMS person on this day. They and their families will be recognized. A luncheon and family games will be provided to them and their families. Let Lighthouse be the church who begins the healing process for our communities and our first responders. I look forward to seeing what Christ can do through Lighthouse that will lead to healing in our country during this divisive time.

As we close out our series called “We Are Family” remember to love one another according to I Corinthians 13. That means getting involved with your church family. Scripture reminds us that all men will know you by your love for each other. Look at the events in our calendar and get involved. You will be blessed and the lost will want to be a part of our church family because of your loving example.

May God bless you all, and I am praying for you often.

Your Friend,

Pastor Russ McAllister
